Namaste

Namaste, which means where the god in me meets the god in you, was the name of our cabin. We were outside of Lutsen right on Lake Superior. The owners rent out his cabin through a rental company, Superior Properties and we have found this a great way to go. It was beautifully furnished and with the size of our group the extra space really paid off. We had 4 kids 7-15 and 3 adults. The 2 levels allowed the kids to watch a movie downstairs while the adults talked or made food upstairs.

Rock throwing is one of our favorite activities and there was plenty of that. The kids had the run of the shore which was great. One night coming back we had to stop for a timber wolf crossing the road which was a real treat until I realized my 7 year old had spent 3 hours playing not 100 yards from where we saw the wolf. Good news is they avoid people but from then on we had the buddy system just in case.

I think the key to huge amounts of wild life that we saw on this trip was our timing. We had gone up the first week of June and lots of the schools were not out yet so the woods were pretty quiet. Up the gunflint and the Cascade trail we saw 2 sets of mother moose with babies and a bull moose. This is the most moose we have ever seen in one trip and the first ones in 2 years. We also saw fox, beaver, weasel and deer. Lots of deer as they were everywhere. The lake Superior otters are very common in and around Grand Marais and we got some great looks at those guys. This was the first time I had seen them. Very cool for me. We will now make the timing of this an annual thing as here an account of last year and you can see the difference.
