Key west Florida is a destination for many people as well as Penny on the go, but to our way of thinking one has to stop and spend some time on one of the Keys on the way out or back to truly experience the laid back Key experience. On the way onto the Keys, stop at the Information center and find out, most importantly, what is free and what is new to visit.

Our choice for just such a visit is the last Marathon key before the seven-mile bridge. The Crystal Bay Resort was a true gem, with sparkling clean refurbished cabins and a owner complete with Parrot on his shoulder tells you that you have arrived someplace where life is treated just a little bit differently than you are probably used to. Depending on the season and the business at the time, can you get a discount on your accommodations? I wont tell what we paid when we were there but after a day of strolling through flowers and basking in the sun by a crystal clean pool, we felt that the going market rate was a bargain. The owner will direct you to some of the best food around that is just a long walk or a short drive from where you’re staying.

One such place on the same side of the highway and on the Gulf water, is the Key Fishery that has it’s own retail outlet and dockside restaurant. Here one can have the BEST Lobster tail sandwich in the world or by far the finest Lobster Bisque you can find all served up with a casual key atmosphere. You sit outside or almost inside with small birds at your feet to catch the crumbs. Key Fisheries ships to fine restraints fish markets and yes you can get this food else where, but is it as good? You will pay more for the fine linen napkin instead of a paper towel and if you prefer fine crystal to the sparkle of the Gulf water, but will it be better elsewhere? Not a chance, this is where that catch comes in and for one, the Lobster sandwich is awesome and those fancy restaurants wont have a beautiful steely eyed white egret standing by to clear your table of any uneaten food.
