Carmel by-the-sea

Carmel by-the-sea is a little old town in California. They give out maps to do a walking tour and see all the unique gardens and architecture. One part of the tour takes you up some steps and across into another backyard where there is a spectacular garden. The sidewalks are all lumpy and bumpy as are the streets.

None of the houses have numbers, you go by 3rd house on the left where ridgeroad meets carmel st. Everyone goes to the postoffice for their mail. A resident told us this is what makes it wonderful. It is a sleepy, slow, beautiful little town.

Grandpa fell in love with the restaurants. Beautifully designed, small, wonderful places with exquisite food. Grandpa is very very picky on gourmet food. He is similiar to the fictional detective Nero Wolfe. He was happy every meal.

We both loved the Hobbitt style houses. The english cottage with the rounded eaves are everywhere. We took pictures and Dave and Nathan loved them. Now the whole family wants to go to Carmel by-the-sea to see the Hobbitt houses. No Hobbitts though.
