Making life easier for ones self can mean many things and take many directions. We at Penny on the go have found that preparing for retirement meant making many very important discisions and they would not be without cost. If you give the control over to someone else you would expect to pay for the service but a close friend relied on a financial planner and broker to over see his portfolio and lost over half of it and had to return to work. The cost was more than anyone would be willing to pay and this, in some form or another, has befallen countless numbers of people. You can’t be an expert at everything but at different times in ones life you need to focus on being an expert on what is going to benefit you in the immediate future. Getting up to speed on how to preserve your capital and earn good dividends and interest is necessary; but in today’s world it would take a ton of money to provide one with any kind of income at all. The first place for knowledge is the public library and I prefer to own the books I use for reference and Amazon .com is a good place to purchase what you need. The pension that you are counting on is guaranteed. Probably not totally and you have to understand that the government will cover it like it did the failing banks of the nineteen eighties, but only up to limits so don’t make decisions on it lasting forever. Doom and gloom? No, join AARP if you are old enough, subscribe to AAII on mutual fund investing and read, read, read, like Bottom Line and any of the other good and helpful publications out there. We cashed out 401k’s and paid the penalty to put funds in better high yield investments and did not lose forty to sixty percent or more of our holdings like so many.
